From the poor brown country being invaded by a US backed white colonialist country to the monkey social media bots, the new Superman Movie came off as very pro-Palestine. Whether it meant to or not, the movie angered Zionists so much that they decided to boycott the movie with the logic that it was spreading anti-Israel propaganda. A big budget DC film being labeled as pro-Palestine from Zionists themselves is something that no one could’ve expected. But why? What was is about this movie that made it come off as anti-Israel and what was the true message of the film?
Story + Power of the Press
The US is an evil, billionaire run, imperialistic government backing a nation of white colonists invading the land of poor, unarmed, innocent brown civilians which Superman and The Justice Gang liberate. Alongside the fictional superheroes, journalists were shown to be our real life superheroes, saving Superman himself from false narratives (swaying the publics opinion to hate superman) made against him by fake news and hundreds of monkey bots. Sound familiar yet? To the audience, this seemed like a jab at Israhelli manipulation of media by lying about and hiding the truth, as well as their blatant colonization of Palestine. Now, despite the movie never actually namedropping Israhell nor Palestine, Zionists immediately took offense, finding this movie to be pro-Palestine propaganda and anti-zionist. Funny how Zionists just immediately relate to the colonizers.
To focus more on the power of the press aspect to the movie, it’s clear that the journalists were shown to be the true heroes while simultaneously having the most power over the publics opinion, whether that be negatively or positively. In the first half of the film, the news (manipulated by a billionaire) caused people to turn on the literal Superman, convincing the public that he was sent to the earth to destroy humans. This idea led to the hatred of aliens…illegal aliens. This part of the film could be related to the recent attack on immigrants in The United States with immigrants being called ”illegal aliens”. Again, I must put this out there, that all of these speculations by the audience about this movie is just how the movie came off as, none of these theories have been confirmed. None the less, the message that the audience takes away from the film is the only message that matters. Speaking of the message of the film, lets move on to the resolution.
Resolution
Of course, Superman and The Justice Gang win in the end, but how the movie went about making that happen was interesting to watch. As we watch the poor country of brown people, Jarhanpur, get invaded by white colonialists, there is one child standing brave holding their countries flag in defiance against the oppressive military about to kill him. That one child, holding his countries flag, in the middle of chaos, connected with the audience, and specifically those who are pro-Palestine, in a way that nobody could’ve expected. A big focus in the Palestinian movement is the children, the future of Palestine that Israhell is trying to kill. The story that Israhell is only attacking Hamas has been disproven a long time ago. Especially now, as the world watches the thousands of babies die of starvation by an enforced famine. Pictures that have circulated the world for years of children resisting the IOF with slingshots and rocks and standing face to face with their oppressor overcome with bravery. This scene of a child from a fictional nation holding up their flag to resist the colonizing forces was one of the main scenes that audience members were able to relate to the situation in Palestine. Another way to look at this scene is seeing the importance of the flag that this child is holding. The ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people is not only an attack of the people themselves, but also at their culture, including their flag. The reason that the watermelon has become a symbol of Palestine is because the Palestinian flag is banned in Palestine, so Palestinians used the watermelon to represent themselves, since a watermelon contains the same colors as their beloved flag. This scene showed the importance of identity, and the Palestinian identity for decades is one that Israhell (and the western powers that fuel that fuel Israhell) have been trying to erase.
Unarguably, the most satisfying scene was the one where Hawk Girl, a member of The Justice Gang, drops the films version of Netanyahu to his death. Not only did we get to see the films version of Netanyahu die, but we watched him die at the hands of colored woman, Latina to be specific. Another member of The Justice Gang, Mister Terrific, had a major role in saving Superman and the fictional nation of Jarhanpur, who is black. Basically what I’m getting at is that the diversity in this film is something that should be recognized and praised.
Conclusion
If you haven’t already, I would say this movie is definitely worth a watch. If you did watch the movie, what did you think?
