Is Kamala Harris brat or is she a blood hungry war criminal who you guys call brat to try to make her relatable so we could maybe forget about all the children she murdered ??
Charli XCX, the hyper pop artist we all know and love one day posted a tweet writing, “kamala IS brat”. Ever since, edits with the signature neon green color and Harris seem to become a trend. Unfortunately, I have not been able to escape the edits on my for you page. So, I figured I might as well write my own thoughts Harris since everyone is political now. What I mean by this is when we would call out people for not talking about Palestine, they would often say that they don’t like to get political or that the situation is too complicated. It was just an excuse to not sympathize with the brown folk. Unsurprisingly, I’m seeing now that those same people who wouldn’t open their mouths about anything “political”, suddenly have an urge to post about the beloved Kamala Harris ever since Sleepy Joe dropped out of the race.
I was feeling very proud of our generation for actually consistently protesting and posting about the genocide in Gaza. The encampments, donation filters, promoting boycotting, etc. It gave the world hope that our generation will break this cycle of oppression and normalized colonization. The students have always been on the right side of history whether it’s Palestine or Vietnam. However, this whole “Kamala is brat” just seems to me as a way to make her relatable to young people. I’m not saying that the entirety of gen-z loves Harris, but I’m just saying when I can’t scroll my phone without seeing a Harris edit under a brat soundtrack, its definitely a trend.
Let me just try to understand what is so brat about her for a second…
Harris silencing her own people who are protesting a genocide by saying “I’m speaking” is brat, right?
Harris promising the American people the most lethal military on earth once she’s elected is brat, right?
Harris’s full support in the apartheid state of Israel is brat, right?
Harris caring more about funding bombs and missiles rather than things that her own people desperately need like healthcare is brat, right?
Yeah no I’m still not getting it.
This whole idea that any vote not in favor of Harris is a vote for Trump is just a way to keep up stuck in this two party system that really couldn’t give a shit about you and I. Two parties that are really no different to each other but that’s a conversation for another day. We have been conditioned to believe that we must vote for either a democrat or a republican because otherwise our vote is quite literally useless. Now of course, I can’t vote. But if I could, I don’t think I would be able to bring myself to vote for either blood hungry candidates when there are so many better options such as Jill Stein, Karina & Claudia, Cornell West. They are awesome candidates that strongly oppose the genocide our government is carrying out right now while also advocating for women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare, educational funding, etc. You know, things that you and I could actually benefit from. Genocide should always be a dealbreaker. Injustice, colonization, hypocrisy, racism, islamophobia, breaking of international law, and all other problems that fall under what is happening in Palestine are dealbreakers. Palestine is not a single issue, therefore voting for a third party candidate would be voting against all of it. I’d think that would be obvious but clearly not.
The world may seem like it is losing its humanity but the people are not. “The people” do not consist of those sitting in office nor zionists nor millionaires or billionaires nor all those you would expect me to speak negatively of in a big spiel of mine. The people are with Palestine, Harris is not.
